About Northstar
Guided by Expertise. Driven by Heart.
Northstar Autism Consultation was founded on the belief that every child with autism deserves to be understood — and every family and educator deserves a trusted guide on that journey.
Founder & Autism Consultant
Amy General
With years of hands-on experience supporting children with autism and the families and educators who care for them, I founded Northstar to fill a gap I saw again and again: families who needed real, practical guidance — not just a diagnosis — and teachers who wanted to do better but didn't know where to start.
After spending more than a decade teaching autistic students in public schools, I realized my greatest impact could extend beyond the classroom. I founded Northstar Autism Consultation to partner with families, educators, and schools by providing practical guidance, individualized support, and meaningful collaboration. Whether I'm coaching parents, helping families navigate the special education process, providing professional development for school teams, or leading parent groups, my goal is always the same: to empower the adults surrounding each child. I believe that when families and schools feel confident, connected, and supported, children with autism have the greatest opportunity to learn and grow.
Northstar is more than a consultation practice — it's a commitment to walking alongside you, every step of the way.

Our approach
A Philosophy Built Around the Whole Child
Strengths-Based
We start with what a child can do, building from their unique strengths and interests rather than focusing solely on deficits.
Family-Centered
Families are the experts on their children. Our role is to equip and empower — not to prescribe.
Collaborative
The best outcomes happen when families, schools, and providers work together. We help build those bridges.
Evidence-Informed
Our recommendations are grounded in current research and best practices in autism support and education.
